Covered Bridges

 

 

The Shoals Covered Bridge is no longer standing … it crossed the Anderson River between Perry and Spencer Counties about 2 miles south of Huffman. This Burr Arch Truss structure had a length of 98 feet, or 112 feet including the 7-foot overhang at each end. Built in 1865 by William T. Washer, the Shoals Covered Bridge was lost in 1967. Shoals Covered BridgeThe Shoals Covered Bridge was correctly noted as being located in Section 19 (actually Sections 18 and 19), Township 5 South, and Range 3 West, 1 mile north of New Boston.
 The Huffman Mill Covered Bridge crosses the Anderson River on County Road 1490 North connecting the counties of Spencer and Perry. This single span Burr Arch Truss structure has a length of 136 feet, or 156 feet including the 10-foot overhang at each end, with a portal clearance 15 feet 6 inches wide by 11 feet 6 inches high. Built by William T. Washer in 1864 for the sum of $5,700, this bridge was named for its close proximity to the nearby Mill that had been built by George Huffman. The Huff’s Ferry Covered Bridge is no longer standing … it crossed Anderson River connecting the counties of Perry and Spencer and neither the date of its construction or demise are know.The structure was perhaps located in Troy Twp. The Cannelton Covered Bridge is no longer standing … crossing Castleburry Creek in Perry County, very little information is known about this structure excepting that it was built in about 1868.The structure was located Near Cannelton, IN

The St. Meinred Covered Bridge is no longer standing … it crossed the Anderson River connecting the counties of Perry and Spencer. This Burr Arch Truss Structure was built by Peter Schuetz & Jacob Neu in 1871 and was lost in 1933.The structure was located in Clark Twp., Indiana The Hurricane Covered Bridge is no longer standing … it crossed a branch of Hurricane Creek in Perry County. Built in 1881 by Jacob Neu & Joseph Sturm, this Howe Truss structure was condemned in 1924 and then sold to John Graman who moved it to higher ground where it was blown down by a storm on August  17, 1936.Located near Adyecille, IN.  Clark Township.
